This working paper examines caste-based educational and socioeconomic disadvantage using Telangana’s SEEEPC Survey and a Composite Backwardness Index. It highlights substantial disparities across caste groups in education, gender, living conditions, and access to resources, while showing how broad social categories can conceal important sub-caste differences. It proposes more disaggregated data.
