The Centre for Development Policy and Practice (CDPP) invites you to an academic talk on “Religious Conflict in Uttarakhand: Understanding Hate and Violence”, featuring Rashad Ullah Khan, Sociologist at Columbia University.
The presentation will examine how Hindutva vigilante organisations operating in Uttarakhand understand and narrate the legitimacy of violence across religious, civic, and political spheres. It will explore their day-to-day operations and the broader ideas of sacred duty and civic belonging that shape their activities, as well as the political and sovereign orders they seek to authorise.
About the Speaker
Rashad Ullah Khan is a sociologist at Columbia University whose research focuses on religion, violence, gender, and society.
